According to many, the upcoming Hilary & Haylie Duff starrer "Material Girls" is set to be the biggest (or, just, in fact, a huge hit) for the Duff sisters. Many fans have gone ga-ga over the clip previews shown on TV shows such as 'MTV's TRL' and 'The Regis & Kelly Show'. Adding to that, oscar winner Angelica Huston is starring as 'Fabiella' (yes, she is the one who is trying to inherit all the wealth of the Duff sisters' cosmetic company), and Lukas Haas (who starred in the oscar winning film 'The Aviator') will also play 'Henry's' part in the film. Martha Coolidge, the director of the film, also directed a few episodes of the hit TV series, "Sex and the City"! According to IMDb, the writing credits for the film go to John Quaintance, who also wrote the 'FRIENDS' spinoff series, "Joey". Also writing this film, is Jessica O'Toole, who we don't know about....yet. So, from the list of writers, actors, actresses and directors...'Material Girls' may be a box office winner...or even an award winning film!

Hilary Duff was mortified when a magazine ran an unflattering photo of her and claimed she was "puffing up". She was shooting a movie at the time and was snapped out on the town in what she thought was a stylish outfit. She explains, "I was in Canada filming THE PERFECT MAN and I put on this outfit that I thought was really cute and creative: jeans, a tank top and a scarf tied around my waist. "It was windy and the scarf was blowing away from me. "At the time I wasn't skinny, but I wasn't fat either, and this magazine comes out saying, 'Hilary Duff Puffs Up'. I was so embarrassed!" The star returned to Los Angeles and took up pilates with sister HAYLIE and got into the best shape of her life. She says the same magazine that accused her of puffing up then ran a story titled 'Oh, No! Now Hilary's a Stick Figure!'. Duff adds, "You can never make those people happy, so you just have to make yourself happy!"

HILARY DUFF is thrilled she was able to move to Hollywood and have a successful career, because she feared she might end up like some of her former friends. The 18-year-old singer/actress relocated from Houston, Texas to Los Angeles with her mother when she was nine-years-old to get her big break in show business. She explains, "I don't even know what my life would be like (if she hadn't moved)." Duff recently got a glimpse of her former life when she returned to her hometown to play a concert and she reconnected with old acquaintances. She adds, "It's scary to see some of them now. They work so hard to be the same as one another. "They all do the same things and get into trouble because they're bored. I'm so much more my own person now." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You just can't keep those celeb mags happy.
As Hilary Duff recently found out.
The actress and songstress was bewildered when an unnamed magazine printed a picture of her claiming she was "puffing up".
And what made matters even worse was that, at the time the snap was taken, she was proudly wearing a trendy new outfit.
She explained: "I was in Canada filming The Perfect Man and I put on this outfit that I thought was really cute and creative - jeans, a tank top and a scarf tied round my waist.
"At the time I wasn't skinny, but I wasn't fat either, and this magazine comes out saying, 'Hilary Duff Puffs Up!' I was so embarrassed."
And what do you know - after she took up pilates and lost some weight, the very same magazine accused her of being too thin, captioning a new picture, 'Oh, no! Now Hilary's A Stick Figure!'
Understandably, the 19-year-old has decided that, as far as her weight and appearance go, from now on she'll be pleasing herself.
"You can never make those people happy, so you just have to make yourself happy," she revealed.
Well said, girl.

In SELF's July cover story, Hilary Duff talks about one of her defining body-consciousness moments. (Let's just say that the tabloid headline "Hilary Duff Puffs Up" did not make her happy!) In this exclusive excerpt from her interview with SELF, find out more details about Duff's new healthy-eating habits, the workout that changed her body and what makes her feel confident. Click on "read more" to read the interview!
SELF: Are you in the best shape of your life?
Hilary Duff: My sister and I last year really started to motivate each other to eat better and work out together and lose weight. We used to be so bad. Jack in the Box was my weakness, burgers and pizza and dessert all the time. I can't even believe I used to eat as badly as I did. French fries were an obsession also, and I completely stopped eating them a year ago. It's funny that when you don't let yourself have something for a while you don't miss it as much.
How often do you do pilates?
I try to do pilates three times a week. It's hard, though, because now I've told all my friends about my pilates instructor and my little secret place and now I can't even get my own appointment! I'll also go to the gym with my sister and friend and do cardio.
Like what?
I run on the treadmill. I start off in a power walk on a high incline to warm up so I won't get cramps and stuff, and then I'll lower it. I can't jog on an incline. I'd be so tired! I also do the elliptical. I get really out of breath and get a headache on the treadmill, so the elliptical is better. Also, it works your arms.
Plus, there's no danger of falling off!
You know what's funny? I was at the gym yesterday with my best girlfriend and it was raining hard so our tennis shoes were wet. We were thinking what if we fall off and slip? And this really big guy did it. He fell off his treadmill. I was trying not to laugh but it was so funny. And it made this huge thud noise. We were like, thank God that wasn't us!
You credit pilates with your weight loss.
With everything! Seriously, my body changed in three weeks. I've always been really muscular; that's why pilates is good for me. I have broad shoulders and if I do weights or something I'll bulk up and feel manly, but pilates lengthens me out. Also you feel really powerful.
Do you have an eating philosophy?
Eating should be fun. I did Atkins for three days and I was in the worst mood and so tired. I'm from Texas, so I'm a big meat eater, but I was like oh, no more! I believe in proportion. If I eat bread when they bring bread to the table, I won't eat pasta or potatoes. Or I'll try to not have the bread because I know I want dessert. A little bit of this, a little bit of that.
How would you eat differently if you had more time?
Probably I'd be able to have a more balanced diet. Because sometimes, I'll eat something in the morning but then I could spend all day driving around going to meetings, doing this, doing that. I don't have time to eat so I'll be so starving for dinner that I'll eat anything in sight. That's when you get in trouble, I think. If you try to eat more throughout the day, then you're more controlled. It helps a lot if I'm around my mom. She's a diabetic, so she has to eat five times a day or else her blood sugar goes all crazy. That's a good way to go about things.
You're launching a new clothing line. You don't show a lot of skin. Why don't you have to expose everything to be sexy or look good?
When I feel sexy, I don't always have fewer clothes on. My clothing line is for girls who are 7 to 14, so we'd never do [overtly sexy clothes] anyway, but I have a line coming out for girls who are 15 to 20 and it'll be stuff I'd wear. I know when I wear something that's a little more skimpy, there have been cases where I feel insecure about myself. I don't feel confident. I'd rather wear a pencil skirt, something I'd feel sexy in. I just think that there is so much more about not showing off everything you have that's sexy, and leaving sex to the imagination and feeling confident.
Don't miss the rest of what Hilary had to say! Check out the cover story in the July issue of SELF!
I never ask celebrities for their autographs. Once you get to know them, asking for an autograph is like asking your sister or friend for one. First, what's the point? Second Hello! Awkward!
I recently made my first exception to my no-autograph rule for SELF's July cover girl, Hilary Duff, who is the supreme idol of both my niece and my girlfriend's niece. I grabbed two outtakes from the shoot and asked her to sign both. "How do you spell Annie?" she asked. "Um, A-N-N-I-E." She seemed a little embarrassed to have inquired, but then she told me this story: A young fan had been carrying a picture of Duff all day, and when she finally got the star's attention, Duff obliged and wrote "Mary, Best wishes, Hilary Duff." The girl looked at the photo and said, "It's M-E-R-R-Y." Duff told me that she felt terrible about "ruining" the picture, but then added defensively, "But how the hell was I supposed to know? Now I'm like, 'Oh, Pam? How do you spell that?'" That was the moment I became a Hilary Duff fan. (Oh, and she signed the photos for the girls, who were absolutely thrilled.)

Hilary Duff doesn't believe in being late. She arrived 20 minutes early to the cover shoot for the July issue of SELF wearing a black tank, Taverniti jeans (which she'd cut into shorts a few days earlier), leggings with argyle patterns up the sides and really cute Marc Jacobs black velvet boots.
Hilary's manager, Troy, and her personal publicist, CeCe, arrived a few minutes after their client. Troy, who is a big bear of a man, explained that he'd been Hilary's manager since she was 15. They met when she was working on Lizzie Maguire; he was a consultant for Disney at the time, and it was his job to put the child actors at ease on the set. He and Hilary hit it off, and eventually Hilary's mom invited him to join her team. Personally, I could use this guy on my team. He did an incredible job of keeping Hilary relaxed and smiling throughout the shoot by cracking jokes and saying things like "Duff, you look ugly. Go home." Since most celebs are used to being coddled and told how great they look at all times, I found Troy's approach refreshing, and I'm guessing Hilary did, too. Every time he spoke, she lit up.
Perhaps Duff is so upbeat because she surrounds herself with positive people like Troy. When we broke for lunch (she ate chicken, veggies and some cookies), Duff told me that she now lives with her sister, Hayley, who's also her best friend, in the house that they used to share with their mom. Their mom has moved just down the street. But Hilary says she sleeps over there a lot because she really misses her.
